Tell us what you think!
How do you feel about the privatization of the Spanish Riding School?
Do you think it is of concern that eighty percent of horses showed signs of kissing spine?
Does it bother you that the FEI are re-writing the rules to fit the riders instead of expecting the riders to try to follow the rules?
Riding the scariest horse! Is this truly dressage??
What is dressage to you!

Riding the scariest horse - I think you Written by brychen on 2006-11-02 10:18:43 I also have a video of the Anky clinic in the Uk and I beg to differ on how Anky looked as a rider. I was impressed watching her ride Salinero in the video by her exceptional quieteness and tact. She didnt look scared to me, just very quiet with the horse. However in the English clinic video I did not see her ride rollkur in the same way as in the video clips from your earlier online magazine which really upset me - she was a big heroine of mine. I do think some of Sfej's comments which were made in English a second language (where he was clearly struggling to get over quite what he meant )have been taken out of context as well by your writter. I think he actually meant that a hot horse tends to put more energy into moving and therefore generates more expression. A similiar hot horse is /was Carl Hesters horse Escapado. I saw him warming up before winning for the last time at the UK nationals and no way did he use the extreme rollkur method. That horse was hot,hot ,hot and it came out in his brillance in moving. he was riden with great tact. I really think that rather than criticising Anky and co (excluding Carl who doesnt seem to be of the same school as it were)for how they school their horses we should criticise the judges for how they judge and what they look for. I have the video of the last world cup for dressage which Anky won and I really was dissapointed that her riding was not as precise as some of the lower marked horses and that moves were omitted(halt) or not correct. personally I would love to see a system similiar to that used by the Classic rding Club whioch gives weight to the training and movements achived by the horse for its type so that a flambouant but incorrect warmblood would not triumph against a correct but less flambouant horse. | FEI piaffe rule Written by piaffe on 2006-11-02 14:33:59 The rule for piaffe WAS changed. It now says that the horse should be at the vertical in that exercise. I agree, it shows lack of ability to take a half halt. That said, those who train deep do not half halt, it would only make the horse croup high(er). | Collection an Written by sandy on 2006-11-02 18:13:40 I think it was Jean-Claude Racinet who emphasized the words "Always know collection before you contemplate extensions".An extension should not be considered a separate gait. They are simply an expression of collection in speed, without change in tempo, where speed is defined as the time elapsed between two points.Without any change in tempo this can only be achieved by lengthening the stride. The horse remains collected, perhaps a little less so, as it uncoils it's tilted pelvis a little. There therefore should be different degrees of extension, which of course there are. Why then would we teach extensions without first knowing collection? Sandy Dunlop. | German vs classical Written by LUSITANO LADY on 2006-11-20 22:47:51 I have experienced both german tuition and classical tuition for Iberians. I have a very hot and highly senstive small lusitano filly who has exceptional talent. Lightness and tact is everything with this mare who is just a 1/4 ounce in my hand. Bullying and hard aids are not! Seeing german trained riders constantly nag a horse's sides with heels is not pleasing. My lusitano has everything going for her but in dressage she is constantly knocked for being too energetic - what is wrong with dressage of today - why cant they accept that iberians have phenomenal talent and mark them in accordance to their ability instead of dismissing their collection as choppiness. |
