When I did the first illustration of what would eventually become the SuperPrix! website, I had no intention of creating a satiric look at the future of dressage. As an illustrator and stage designer, I enjoy puttering around with visual ideas and putting them on paper. What started out as a simple design exercise turned into a personal effort to speak out against the developments which seem increasingly detrimental to our sport. Little did I know that my fictional predictions would actually start coming true, and not in the remote future.
I created the Guter Sitz saddle just for the fun of it, and in response to the current trend in dressage saddle design. A big selling point of many of these saddles is that they claim to hold the rider in the correct position with a combination of ultra-deep seats and “supportive” knee rolls (and without having to endure all those painful and tedious hours on the longe line). The Guter Sitz simply went one step further, locking the rider onto the horse’s back.
