Teaching Visions

"Teaching is more then just teaching skills, it is teaching a vision, a vision of something etheral because it hasn't happened yet, something possible but not yet reached. If the vision that we teach is not based on feel, emotions, and artistry, then we fail not just the riders that we teach, we fail the horses.

A vision of equestrian excellence."

Knowledge Shared

Knowledge shared - is truly an incredible gift.

There are so many things in the world that someone has to do for you. You go to the doctor for a diagnosis, or for a prescription, you go to the pharmacy to have that prescription fulfilled. You go to have your hair cut, your nails done, or your car fixed.

Riding is completely different nobody can ride for you. It is something you have to do yourself. And when you ride, the knowledge that you own, becomes and is yours. It belongs to you and nobody else. It belongs to you from now on. It frees you as it is the essence of freedom.

Through the ages there were those special unique horsemen who had their secrets. Secrets they did not share. Knowledge they kept to themselves. Because in their eyes to share their knowledge, all their knowledge was to loose their power, their influence, their very jobs.

Those that teach, all teachers, all those who share of their knowledge provide you with an incredible gift. A gift that no longer belongs to them. A gift that now belongs to you. A gift that any true teacher would be proud for you to share.

Share your knowledge, your resources. Together creating a new class of equestrians.

Are the Waters Clear

"Do you have the patience to wait till your mud settles and the water is clear? Can you remain unmoving till the right action arises by itself?"   Lao-Tzu (c. 6th century B.C.)

"Are you the type of person that has to make something happen?

Have you ever stopped and thought how muddled the communication is between you and your horse? And rather then making the horse do SOMETHING, what would happen if you waited till the water was clear?

Perhaps rather next time, wait a minute, 10 minutes, a day, wait for the water to be clear, so that the droplet can be seen and felt and the ripples can flow through the clear water."

Taste of the Exquisite

Like the prose of the finest poetry, the taste of exquisite words, like the imagery of dreams undreamed that words can represent, riding has the eloquence of the finest sonnets ever written.

There is a delicacy, a passion, a rhythm that fits together like the words of the most elegant artist. The eloquence of riding that flows from the rider, flow like the words flow from the pen of the most eloquent writer. An unspoken language of love. A language of quiet reflection. A language that is mute, still, quiet. An unspoken language that touches lightly like a butterfly impinging so softly on the awareness of the horse. Trying carefully not to disturb the rhythm of the interaction of two.

How could eloquence improve your riding?

Yield Not Surrender

"The sign says yield, not surrender!"

It is fun when we first learn to drive. There is lots to learn. How to stay in our own lane, what all the different signs mean. Yield seems to be the sign that gets most people confused. Are you supposed to stop, not stop? Stop quickly and then go? Slow down and then go?

In reality yield means exactly what it says. It does not mean to stop. It doesn't really mean slow down. It means yield. It means if everything looks clear to go, GO. If not, stop.

Many riders seem to be very confused by the concept of yield from their horse. What is yielding? The horse can yield its mind, its body, it can yield to the reins. And each of these can mean very different things to different people.

But whatever your definition remember that:

"The sign says yield, not surrender!"
