Part 1 of the Video Series of Albert Ostermaier
Albert Ostermaier came from a very wealthy German family.
Though they lost all of their family's wealth, Albert's father managed to save his horses and bring them with the family, and upon arriving in the States he joined Ringling Bros as an Equestrian Trainer/Performer. Many other Circus greats also arrived in the United States during this period.
An ardent fan of the Baroque Breeds . Lipizzaner, Andalusian and the Lusitano he trained a variety of different breeds, and was very fond of the American Saddlebred in particular.
His horses were very precise controlled Piaffe, passage, 3 step, Spanish walk, backing without hands, pirouettes, pirouettes on 3 legs, cantor backwards, Spanish high trot, change of leads down to one tempe, passage and rear down into passage step without missing a beat. Albert Ostermaier was among the many great legends from the world of Classical Circus Equitation.
A true technician, Albert loved figuring out how to bring out the best in each horse. He would study their personalities and figure out what motivated each of them as individuals.
Join us in watching this month's black and white video of Albert Ostermaier working with one of seven black Lipizzans registered in the world at the time. A powerful stallion showing off his courbette not once but twice. Check with us over the next few months for more of Albert Ostermaier working with his horses including some incredible work with no contact with one horse and no bridle with another.
