![]() The following is a plea, an impassioned plea by one person, who having read and seen the pictures on rollkur decided she was going to speak up on behalf of the horses to the people and riders that she knew. Impressed with her passion and her words, we asked her permission to share them.
Lastly, I would like to encourage all of you to check out www.HorsesForLife.com this month [Editors Note: June Edition] - it is a double issue, focusing on the controversial method nicknamed Rollkur. If ever you were confused, in doubt or simply unaware of the controversy and reasons for it, this issue will clear your mind, and educate you to the ins and outs of Rollkur. If you have watched our international competitors and wondered what the heck was going on, this issue will explain! Personally, as some of you know, I have no doubts any longer as to where I stand on this issue. But this month's video, pictures and articles on how it affects horses' biomechanically, mentally and emotionally, had a vast impact on me. For those of you soft of heart like myself, bring Kleenex to your reading.....but I do sincerely hope you take a look - this is too serious a problem in our sport to not get educated about it.
Okay, this is where I get on my soap box for a moment....
![]() Many of us have already written to the FEI, and HorsesForLife.com now is collecting comments and letters for the FEI also, so people may add their voice with ease. You don't need a subscription - just log in, it's free, and you too can add your voice. The list of outraged, disgusted and horrified comments is growing by the minute. The problem is with the judges and with the FEI - if they do not set the standards, who will? Anky van Grunsven just set another 'World Record' ( Dressage now having been reduced to a hunt for a world record score?) showing us that more voices are definitely needed to turn the tide on this horror show. Klaus Balkenhol and his associates have begun the fight and I suggest it is in our best interest that we all get educated and involved.
Which brings me to a common comment someone recently made to me regarding Klaus Balkenhol and his nationality (German, who have been losing to the Dutch who are the ones really bringing Rollkur to the fore, touting it and defending it) are playing a part in his stance on Rollkur. That has been the lame excuse of the Dutch players in question from the get go, but only serves to distract from the issue. I personally find it holds no water whatsoever.
