![]() ROLLKUR (Overbending of the neck)
Overbending of the neck is dangerously becoming a fashionable way of training horses in the world.
The FEI stated during a meeting in Lausanne (Switzerland) that not only this way of training is harmless to the horse but is beneficial when used by experienced riders.
The whole issue and heavy and factual discussions going on about Rollkur at the moment are very interesting. It makes all of us realize how much and how far one is ready to go in order to get what one wants... and how far one is ready to get involved in the well-being of the horses under saddle.
Why are the FEI so blind as to not take in consideration the blatant tension and pain, visible to us all, in the horse's eyes while being trained by this technique ?
One has to ask the question : are some riders so used to look at their own bellies to the point of forcing their horses to do the same ? Are we letting them to do so because one does not know better ? Have we forgotten what is right and good so that we have nothing to look up to therefore accepting it all passively ?
Apart from the tragic-comical situation we are submerged in, there are some serious issues to ponder about. Is Rollkur the extreme sign that we have lost touch in our relation to the world and its meaning ?
Why is it so ? We all Love Horses and Training and because of our own interpretation of Love, one gets somehow lost on the way.
There, we are hitting a turning point in our lives and with our horses: do we stay passive and allow it as the FEI advocates or do we stand and say that this type of riding has nothing to do with Dressage as it destroys the natural paces of the horses ? How can we try to get through to the riders and judges who cannot see ?
