| Riding into Movement: How it works? |
|
NOVEMBER 2005 • VOLUME 3 • HORSES For LIFE™ Magazine
Nuno Oliveira and Completely One with the Horse "It is the total release of Nuno's horses that has me totally entranced. The skill of the trainer to find the releases in the horse's body in movement, allowing us complete access to the horse. The lightness is this total release, the lightness is in Nuno's ability to totally follow the horse, expressed not only amazingly in his legs, but also in his hands as can be so clearly seen in that one scene where: "In the middle of a piaffe sequence one can see the horse turn and look at a distraction in the arena and Nuno so attuned to his horses, that even at this moment his hands just naturally follow the horse. No restriction, no hesitation."
The problem is doing nothing is really doing lots. Because it is doing nothing *from the horse's perspective* not ours. For many people doing nothing or relaxing is total inactivity or being a blob. Which from the horse's perspective is no different then carrying a huge load like a pack horse. You always feel it is there.
