Oliveira: Suspended Trot



There are too many movements that we see celebrated too rarely  these days. Movements that not only enlarge the repetoire that you and your horse have, but also limit the depth and breadth of your communication with your dance partner, the horse.  Movements that limit your ability to find accesses that perhaps you just didn't realize were there.  We enjoy, as part of our on-going exploration of the historical basis of our riding, exploring and presenting some of these alternative movements.

The following is a quote from Nuno Oliveira:

"Dans le trot en suspension (improprement appelé trot espgnol), le cheval doit garder la même légèreté que dans le passage.

La differenence entre ce trot et le passage large, c'est que le cheval, a lieu de plier ses antérieurs, les tend énergiquement et les suspend.

Le cheval doit être capable d'évoluer du passage au trot en suspension, puis de revenir de ce trot au passage en gardant toute sa légèreté.

Pour cela, le cavalier établira l'endroit où les jambes agissent, en fonction de l'un ou de l'autre mouvement.

Le cheval obéissant et attentif aux aides saura quel mouvement il doit faire selon l'endroit où on le touche.

Le pas et le trot en suspension sont classés par certains ignorants comme des airs de fantaisie.

Allez les void dans les prairies exécutés brillamment par des chevaux qui n'ont jamais été montés!
