Sometimes we can have problems when we lead, the horse distracted paying not attention to us, but thinking of the barn ahead, new friends close by or the friend he has just left behind.

When you have problems with leading what is your reaction?

Do you think of it as something you need to make the horse do? Something that you need to fix?

Do you start pulling a little harder? Do you give a jerk on the lead rope?

Do you put him in a circle, inviting him to slow down, not rush ahead?

All of these reactions are just that reactions. Reacting to a problem. Not looking for the root cause. Because you are not dealing with the root cause, more then likely your one circle, becomes two. Maybe it becomes many circles, with you spend as much time going round and around on a circle and taking more steps and going more distance in the circles, then you are ever going straight.
