MARCH 2006 • VOLUME 7 • ©HORSES For LIFE™ Magazine
The common accepted perception of the achievement of collection, is that this occurs as the horse begins to bascule on the hind end and takes more weight on his hind end, freeing up his front end to become more mobile. Bringing the horse to a new gymnastic ability. We know and have known for centuries that horses normally carry themselves on the forehand. Meaning that they carry the majority of their weight on the front end, on the two front legs. Recent more scientific study done with force plates has proven what the masters already knew. That this is very much true, that the green unbalanced horse, or resting horse, is more then likely to carry the majority of weight on his forehand.
