October 2007 • VOLUME 26 • © HORSES For LIFE™ Magazine What do you think will happen at
home, in the training, when no one is around........
The FEI will not interfere, because
the people who are involved have too much influence, they are in the
"right" positions.
Most of the time they are
trainers and their pupils do whatever they want them to do, because they hope
to become "as good" as the teacher !
Poor horses, they are better
off dead.

Hi, I am an avid reader of your
magazines, I have been trying to find out about in-hand schooling but to no
avail. I have seen spanish trained andys etc at a very high level of training
at quite a young age, in this country most people believe that the first part
of schooling a horse is backing it! I feel this should be the last. I know it
is in Spain, horses are schooled in-hand first so they are strong and balanced
before we get on. Could you please do an article on in-hand schooling, ie;
what age to start,
how to do it,
and where to find more info
I used to have a go with my andy (
who did it beautifully for others ), I had a go at piaffe he used to love it ,
he would get all puffed up and excited. I would love to learn how to train in-hand succesfully, as when I move to New Zealand I would love to breed.
kindest Donna
Editor's Response Hello Donna,
You may have noticed our article this and last month's with Fritz Stahlecker on his
in-hand work. We just wanted to let you know that it was you that we were
thinking of when we did this series!
Warm Regards,
A (new) petition against the rollkur is now online...

I just want to specify that I'm against rollkur, AND ONLY rollkur! I'm not against the people, so I don't agree with a "retroactive application" of the rules to Power and Paint, because P&P is just one case! I prefer to see an action against all the people who are using this violent practice on their horse(s) (reining devices AND riding rules!!)!! I hope that the FEI will now take a real position on this question... a position that every horseman would like to see, for the well-ness of horses!
Regards,
Had a blast playing with the Horses for Life Archive yesterday. You do
amazing work. I’m starting forward from the First Vol. I am really pleased with
your article on Wynmalen & Mitteltrab. It explained a lot which I
had forgotten about Wynmalen.
This is an enquiry e-mail from kerry Thank you for this wonderful magazine. I am lucky enough to have a trainer who teaches along horse-centred, classical lines, but sometimes i feel as if every other trainer around seems to hate horses! so, thank you for showing me that there are other voices in the wilderness!
When I see wonderful young horses which I could never afford, being systematically ruined by modern, competition-orientated training methods, I feel like crying. If only more riders and trainers would open their minds to the kind of attitudes and training that you highlight.
Please, is there any chance that you could put all the video clips on the site together, accessible from a single link? When i want to show my friends an amazing, inspirational clip, i have to rack my brains to remember which edition it was in, and I'm sure there are clips I haven't found yet. I am sure that a "video clips link" would be very popular, if there's any chance that you could do it.
Many thanks, and thank you again.
