Its All About the Horses

Just recently a friend asked me if when I looked back how did I view my mistakes as a rider and a trainer. And I had to stop and think. Because I have reached a place where I now am feeling pretty good and even content with my relationship with my horses.

When I analyze myself, as a rider the mistakes that I see through the years that I still very, very much regret have been mistakes I've made that have been ones of temper and ego. Ones where I have blamed the horse.*sigh*

Otherwise I have learned to see training and riding as a progression that is never done. I've also learned to accept what the horses can give me. Some horses whether because of temperament, or age, or past training can be really stuck in where they are at, and that's okay. I can accept and love them for who they are, and have the patience to say well maybe we can't turn you into a grand prix horse, how about we just work on you leading a little better, or halting a little better today. Sometimes we don't ever get much past that, and other times, overtime we reach plateaus that no one would have ever dreamed we would reach.
