SEPTEMBER 2005 • HORSES For LIFE™ Magazine

Many moons ago. I had the great fortune to read Dressage &CT. An incredible magazine that made me think, like few magazines have before or afterwards. It challenged me. In some ways it made me the horse person I am today, from the knowledge that I gleaned from between its pages. Through Dressage &CT I became aware of riders and masters that I had never known before. Masters like Nuno Oliveira, that I read about through the words of Bettina Drummond, also I got to read incredible articles by Henriquet, Racinet, Jean Luc Cornille, all of them shaping my training, my expectations of what could be possible.

When I first heard about its difficulties - how the magazine would not be able to keep going. I was heartbroken. I enjoyed day dreaming of the day that I would restart Dressage &CT. Of course I knew it would never happen. If Ivan I Bezugloff Jr. couldn't keep it going, nobody could. But it was a good dream.

I went through many changes in my life. But my life and my work was always about horses, always trying to share what knowledge and experiences I was so privileged to experience, including sharing those wonderful resources that Dressage & CT had showed me were out there. Always believing that:

A single candle can light a thousand more without diminishing itself.
Hillel the Elder (c. 30 B.C.-10 A.D.)
Scholar
There is no way in one lifetime that we can learn it all. We need other lifetimes, other people's experiences to help us progress. And we are not diminished when we light another thousand candles.
Instead we are illuminated. With the light of another thousand candles that will shed more light on what we want to learn, then we could have shed by ourselves.

As with many horsemen, as with many teachers I always seemed driven to find new ways, and new opportunities to gather information and share it with others.  In the end from a lifetime of experience teaching and sharing information, from this the concept of HORSES For LIFE™ came about. To try to light another candle.

But it was probably always sitting there, waiting to come out, inspired by Ivan I Bezugloff Jr. and his incredible magazine Dressage & CT.

And so I would like to dedicate our magazine HORSES For LIFE™ to Ivan I Bezugloff Jr. and his high standards of excellence.

Once the idea of HORSES For LIFE™ was born, it was truly overwhelming and heart warming to see how the idea, the concept was supported by so many different people who brought very different talents together to make this magazine a reality. It is heartening to find so many people who are passionate, so passionate that they were happy to bring a variety of talents and resources to make this truly unique magazine online.

While different, HORSES For LIFE™, tries to recreate that incredible sense of indepth information. Information that challenges a person. From studying the masters, to the latest in veterinarian research. From monthly articles on therapeutic riding to true life teaching stories.  From history, to enjoying how horses touch us in so many different ways, on so many different levels.

But even more HORSES For LIFE™, is about the heart of every horseman. About the passion that horses brings out in each of us. Enjoying the incredible beauty, the strength, the challenge of being the best horse people, ... the best people that we can be.

"Let's inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more."
