Leaving my trainer to pursue my own thinking and explorations around
classical equitation was one of the hardest decisions in my riding
career. I went from being in the midst of an active riding group that
was also friendly and social outside of the barn to a place of
questioning and curiosity.
It is a word that is often used to describe what the horse “owes” us,
and rarely used to describe what WE owe the horse - what his nature,
beauty, and generosity should inspire in us.
It always surprises me how it is in frustration, in the difficulties
that we experience, that we learn the most. When things are easy, we
rarely learn the lesson that might subtlety be there, so we miss it
completely. It is too subtle to attract and hold our attention. The
lesson that Brenda was about to learn was not subtle.

As of January 2012 if certain people have their way, this historical precedent will be changed.

beauty, and generosity should inspire in us.
