Draw Reins
With auxiliary reins the communication between horse and rider, which
is an important aim in classical equestrianism, is no longer possible.
The horse no longer has the possibility of raising its head, blocking
its mouth or turning its neck sideways in order to show the rider that
it is tensed up, in pain or cannot maintain a certain position for an
infinite period of time. Equestrianism is reduced to a series of
unilateral orders. A logical consequence of this is then that many
trainers no longer gymnasticise their horses on an individual basis but
rather work according to a rigid scheme. Because how should they
possibly be able to feel what each single horse requires when the
auxiliary reins are presenting them with a silent and superficial
illusion of riding qualities?
